A most remarkable picture. I summise, using my limited Mach knowledge, is that the cloud is the low pressure shockwave travelling backwards from the nose as the A/C goes supersonic (or close to it). Any better or more accurate explanations?

If you can read the caption above it says something about being grounded for thirty days. I'm doubtful. If this had been a 'hi-jinks fly-by' then the pilot would have been out of the navy and probably court marshalled, too.
